I enjoyed the past school year very, very much. It was a pleasure to teach a great group of students. And, it was also a pleasure to work with a great group of supportive parents, and school staff. I can only hope that next year will give me more of the same. Have a great summer, and a great future one and all!
Best regards, J. Brooks

Hello All.
Well, the year is just about over. For me, I have enjoyed teaching this year. All of the students have been another enjoyment for me this year. I wish each and everyone a great summer and the best of luck in the future.
Final Exams All of the final exams have been administered, graded and shown to the students. I think that the 6th grade exams were designed better than the 7th grade. I graded the exams the same day that they were administered, except for the 6th grade English exam, which was completed the next day. Parents, your child knows what grade he or she has received on each of the exams. Tomorrow, I will return and review the exams with the students. Please review the exams at home.
Animal Farm The 7th grade Animal Farm book reports were due last Friday. The book reports have been graded and will be returned on Monday, June 10th. Unfortunately, I can not accept late book reports at this time.
Grade Sheets Parents. In a couple of days, I will be e-mailing a final grade sheet, it will contain all of the grades (from the first, second, and third term) that your child has received in my class. There was a problem with the first term grades, but I should be able to merge the 1st term file, with the second/third term file. If you have any question, please let me know.
Packing Up I have told my 6th graders (last week) that they should have started taking their things home. If they wait until the very last day, they will have too much to carry.
Website Update My website still needs a lot of work. I am sorry I was not able to put up more pictures. Since I paid for a set package, I was limited to a set number of pages (25). I could not make the pictures very large, nor could I put pictures on their own page. However, one of my 6th graders showed me a very good trick with the pictures. If you (left) click and drag the picture into the address bar at the top of the screen. The picture will appear in a temporary page. Thanks A.!!

Final Exams Today was day 1 for final exams. I gave my 6th graders their social studies final exam, I also corrected those exams. Parents (6th grade), please review the exam with your child. I will returned the exams tomorrow.
I was very pleased with the students results. Only one student scored below 65percent, that student scored 63percent. For the final exam, I used a couple of exams from teacher's textbooks. Both of the textbooks had units on Japan and Korea. This exam was also challenging, similar to the Egyptian exam. However, I was pleased that the conplaining about the test being too difficult was not done this time around.
There was some confusion with my 7th graders (Reading & English) Exam schedule (my fault). When the changes were made, I only focused on my 6th graders schedule(my homeroom). I forgot to make a note about the 7th graders that I teach. In the past, I usually schedule the exams on the same day. I believe the confusion has been worked out.
Last week was the 6th and 7th graders field trip to Showa Kinen Park. Since the park was so large, it was difficult to take pictures. Most of the students rented bicycles. We were very lucky in terms of the weather. Two days before the trip the weather was cold and rainy, but the trip day had very nice weather. I like to plan my class trips near the end of the school year.
Website Update I have added a few more pictures to the student's photo page. I have finally added some 7th grade pictures. Unfortunately, the girls usually did not want me to take their picture (I usually ask before I take anyone's picture). I think I have a few photos of the 7th grade girls. When I have time, I will upload those pictures.
One problem with this website lately is that some of the pictures won't stay, hold, or upload onto my webpage. Those are the ones with the empty boxes.
Another problem is that I am still very new at doing this website. I have uploaded 40 or 50 photos without properly organizing the pictures, and the files. Over the summer, I am going to have to redesign, and reorganize this website.
7th graders Your Animal Farm book reports are due on Friday, June 6th. Your graphic organizers are due tomorrow, June 3rd. The graphic organizer is being collected for a "check" grade, just a kick in the pants for the slow moving procrastinators. The book report is a "letter" grade. Unfortunately, Friday is the last day (report cards have to be done), so late book reports can not be accepted.
It's late, until next time.... The student's homework assignment is to study, study, study!!!

Tomorrow's Trip At this moment, the trip is still scheduled for tomorrow. If it rains, then the trip will be cancelled.
I forgot to mention that the park has bicycles for rent. Parents, your child should bring at least 500 yen for bicycle rental(250 yen for each 3 hours).
The 3rd Term Grade Sheets Some of the parents had difficulty opening the e-mail attachment that contained their child's grades in my class for the 3rd term. I offered to make a printed copy for those that had difficulty with the e-mail. A few of the students said that the printed copy was not needed.
Final Exam Schedule (Changes) There was a change in the final exam schedule. The changes were not my decision. However, I was lucky, the changes were minor. My 6th graders received the new schedule. The 7th graders also received their schedule from their homeroom teacher. So, I am not going to retype the new schedule here.
Website Update I have added another page to the student photo gallery. The new pictures are more of my 6th grade trip to the museums, I also added three rainy day photos. For some reason, a few of the photos that I tried to put on the website would not show. I don't know why. I am still a beginner in terms of this website. There is still so much I don't know about maintaining, and organizing the information on this website.

Website update on Monday, around 6:00pm. However, the 6th and 7th grade (final set of) spelling words for this year are now available.
Note to Parents: I have e-mailed the 3rd term grade lists for each student in my classroom. I have received a couple of e-mails saying that the e-mail attachment was not able to be opened. If you have your child remind me, I will give him (or her) a printed copy.
Hopefully, I will have the student photo page ready to show sometime this evening.
Reminder: Wednesday is our field trip to Showa Park. Students should bring their school books to school on that day, just in case it rains. If it rains, the trip will be canceled, and Wednesday will be a regular school day.

Greetings.
Last Friday was the Junior High Spring Program. Since I was the caller (my job was to call the performers at the correct time), I was not able to watch. I hope both the parents and the students enjoyed themselves. I think that the students all worked very hard.
This past weekend, I went to the Maritime Museum. I wanted to go ahead of my students so that I could have some idea of what to expect. There may be a slight problem. I received verbal approval, but I have not received approval in writing, so I will have to get written confirmation tomorrow. Today, the principal was not here, nor was his secretary.
There are other things that I could bring up, but I need to leave class now. I may address those topics at another time. Right now, I really should leave, because I need to go to the coin laundry, and study for the next test in the Japanese class that I am attending. I also have to do my Japanese homework.

Hello All. This week is the Junior High School Spring program. Since there wasn't a formal request by the coordinators of the Spring Program in terms of what the students should wear, I made the choice of requesting the following for my students (6th grade only):
Boys White Shirt Dark pants neck tie
Girls White Blouse Dark Skirt The students have to be at school at 4:00pm. The program begins at 6:00pm and ends at 7:30pm.
Diorama Due to the short amount of time remaining before the Spring Program, I am canceling the remainder of the Diorama project.
Animal Farm The 7th graders will be reading "Animal Farm" a chapter book. After reading the book, the students will be writing a book report, and watching the video of "Animal Farm".
Class Trips (6th graders) Assuming I don't fall asleep, I will type up the trip letters for our class trips (at least one for the trip that is next week). I apologize for the procrastination.
Grade Sheet Once again, there will be a delay. I do plan to have them sent sometime this week.
Student Photos Due to a problem with the password program. I am just going to e-mail the page address. I should have something to show in a few days.
Until Next Week.....

Hello! Welcome back! I hope your Golden Week was golden.
My apologies for the delay in updating this webpage.
Homework * Due to the short week returning from the Golden Week vacation, the homework assignment pages will not be updated for this week. However, the students do have a couple of assignments that they should be working on. *Both 6th and 7th graders should be reviewing and studying their previous tests, and quizzes.
6th graders * Due to the short time before the end of the term, in Social Studies we are jumping to Unit #20 Japan and Korea. From time to time the students have shown a limited amount of knowledge about both countries. Since most of the students are from those countries, I thought that Chapter 20 was an important chapter to cover. * The Social Studies Final Exam will be from the Chapter 20 textbook. Again, the textbook tests are usually very challenging, but I think the students can handle the exam. The other part of the Final will be questions taken from previous tests and exams. * The 6th graders are also working on a Narrative Story related to Spring. Their typed rough drafts are due on Friday, May 9th.
7th graders The 7th graders had a research report related to the "Heal the World" theme. Their rough drafts were returned with extensive comments to help with the corrections that need to be made. The corrected reports are due on Monday, May 12th. * Unfortunately, 5 students did not submit their rough drafts, or submitted it too late. Those students received an "F" for the rough draft assignment. One student received an "F" for cutting and pasting his entire report from the internet (he did not even remove the "click here to..." statement in the report.) Unfortunately, with this website (which takes up a lot more time than I thought), the grade sheets (I plan to send the next grade sheet on Monday, May 12th), regular classwork grading and planning, and my Japanese homework (I had 100 assignment sheets to do during the Golden Week vacation), my workload is high. If I grade the late rough draft of the research reports, then reread the edited copies, I will be pushing my other work behind. * I did mention to the 2 students that submitted their rough drafts late, they should ask another classmate to see what comments I wrote on their reports. That should help the late students edit their rough draft, and submit their edited final copy on Monday. * Parents, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. This school year, I have tried very hard to be flexible and make myself available, and I will continue.
Final Exams We now have about 3 more weeks before the Final Exams, and the end of the school year. For both the 6th and 7th graders, I told each class that their End Term finals would be culled from previous test and exams. I think that the final exam should be a reflection of what was taught (and hopefully learned) this school year.
Junior High Spring Program May 16th the junior high school will be doing a Spring Program. I was told that the students should be dressed presentable, but the school uniform is not required. At this moment I do not believe that there is a formal request. However, I think that the students should come to the preformance in dark pants, a white shirt (and tie). If I receive any information about what the students should wear, I will post that information here.
